Royal Ascot Racecourse Grandstand
Royal Ascot Racecourse Grandstand Restaurant, Ascot Berkshire
The new grandstand at Royal Ascot Racecourse was a £200 million project that took place between 2004 and 2006. Built amongst original buildings dating from 1878, the new grandstand is built on the top of the hill next to Ascot High Street and has a natural ‘fall’ or slope that mimics the outline of the hillside. The steel structure that supports the grandstand compensates for these sloping contours and results in the 54 steel columns and roof trusses (that are inspired by the ancient trees around the site) all being unique in design. A central atrium acts as a ‘breathing spine’ for the building and an open space from floor to the lightweight steel and glass roof.
