Project Description

Fowey Hall was commissioned by Charles Augustin Hanson who, born in Polruan in 1846, emigrated in 1862 to Canada to work in the lumber trade. Hanson built the house from 1889 to 1899 after purchasing the plot from the Rashleigh family who owned Daphne du Maurier’s Menabilly nearby. In 1968 the Countrywide Holiday Association ran the property as a hotel for walkers and bird lovers. New ownership in 1998 saw extensive refurbishment with reception rooms returned to their original use and a sympathetic accommodation wing added in 2006.
