Whitestone House, Hampstead Heath
Project Description
This elegant late Regency mansion was redesigned in the 1930s under the direction of Sir Clough Williams-Ellis, the renowned architect of Portmeirion. It has recently been beautifully restored and modernised by its current owners, the interior seamlessly fusing classic elegance with modern design.
Artists and writers have always been drawn to Whitestone House’s unique position. John Constable painted from a studio in the garden drawing inspiration from the rolling acres of the Heath. The house was also the home of Victorian novelist, Beatrice Harraden (1864-1936) and Henry Mark Anthony (1823-1886) painter and a friend of the Rossettis. He was regarded as a foremost landscape artist drawing from nature on a grand scale.
The house has been sympathetically remodeled with a basement pool, sauna and steam room. Kitchens and bathrooms have all been refinished with quality materials. Extensive use has been made of Armourcoat polished plaster throughout the property. Artisan craftsmen have applied the finish by hand including a relief dado textured band around the rooms. This gloss polished finish can be seen clearly in the images of the luxury bathrooms.
