Gymbox Covent Garden Entrance

Project Description

Gymbox Covent Garden benefits from an architectural conversion transforming this fomer underground car park into an exciting, vibrant space. Ben Kelly, Architect was involved and the intelligent use of space is a hallmark. It is the depth of the building that makes the first impact upon entering. The main open space is cleverly sectioned into training areas and disciplines however it is the impressive area and four level depth that impresses. The cantilever dance studio appears to be hanging in mid-air with a glazed end wall that overlooks the four level activity areas. Dynamic lighting is particularly vibrant within the space.  The space planning is especially innovative in the gym with tapering spaces used for spinning bikes and compact areas used for cross-training machines that are tucked away and benefiting from a sense of privacy. The changing areas are finished to a particularly high standard with a black, yellow and grey glass fronted locker system. The boxing ethos is front and central to the venue with a wide range of equipment and bags. The chain manages to staff the activity so that it appeals equally to male and female members.
