Project Description

The White Collar Factory by Allford Hall Monaghan Morris Architects for Derwent London plc is a mixed use development at the junction of Old Street and Silicon Roundabout. The 16-storey development will create a mix of residential and small business spaces in London’s Tech City.  The development retains two existing buildings on the site and adds three new four and five level structures. A chilled ceiling has been installed into all levels where the rebar reinforced concrete floor/ceiling pad has long life underfloor heating piping installed before the pour. The ‘in ceiling’ piping then has cooled glycol based liquid circulated around all levels that uses the mass concrete slab as a thermal cooling surface. Night time cooling in hot weather assists this process that uses heat pumps to strip out the heat absorbed through the concrete and into the coolant pipes.
