Royal Pavilion, Brighton – Music Room Gallery

Project Description

The Music Room Gallery was used for small concerts and recitals for George IV’s guests.  The grand piano, inlaid with brass in a rosewood case, was presented by Queen Mary. The Pavilion was developed in the late 1780’s by George, Prince of Wales who commissioned Henry Holland, Architect. The Brighton lodging house used by the Prince was transformed into a large structure known as the Marine Pavilion. George furnished the property in an oriental style. When George became Prince Regent in 1811, the Marine Pavilion was considered too modest to host large events. In 1815 John Nash was commissioned to create the current Pavilion structure. Nash installed a cast iron frame into Holland’s structure that was required to support the domes, minarets and pinnacles on the roof.
